19.6.18: Hook defences, Thai rounds and syllabus work

1 grading down (well done Tom and Jason) a couple more to go. Continuing to fine tune for the higher grades upcoming beasting... I mean grading!

Warm up:

Shadow boxing

Hook defences:

with a panatukan focus... open hand strikes and jabs... remind s us to do other stuff... not just punching!

1) Off Jab lead hook - scoop jab and follow it back, bicep stop (lock out arm) follow up with groin hit throat jab, groin hit (remember to cover and move slightly off line.

2) Off Jab and rear hook/wide Cross - scoop jab and bicep stop with your lead hand (lock arm out and step off line) palm strike with thumb to eye. AS you do this step across (your rear leg first) in order to off balance them (move their back foot) - follow up with throat hit, groin hit, throat hit

3) Off Jab lead hook - scoop jab and crash in with lead elbow (cover face with elbow and use other arm as a strong shield to help defend hook. follow up with rear hook.

4) Off jab rear hook - scoop jab, bob and weave under rear hook, groin shot and then drive in, pivoting round the side, to get into a wait/hip grab (locking hands together. lift one elbow up and the other down  to take down partner.

Thai pads: 4 rounds 3 mins per round 45second break in between

JUST KEEP HITTING

1) check rear round kick and reply with - rear round, hook, cross,  switch step lead round
2) check rear kick and reply with - rear round kick, hook cross, rear round kick
3) Rear Forearm parry their lead leg teep reply with - switch step lead round kick, cross, hook, rear round kick.
4) Rear Forearm parry their lead leg teep reply with - switch step lead round kick, cross, hook, switch step lead round kick.

exhausting but everyone is getting fitter and getting through the rounds still hitting strong. sensible pad holding and motivation is helping.us to build our pace and endurance.

Syllabus:

Darren and I worked double stick Sumbrada with a couple of disarms, others worked on their specific syllabus work.
