5/6/18: Double stick flow, Thai pads, Lock flow

OH.THE.PAIN... Brain frying and body shattering session. excellent as always. Again focusing on syllabus and preparation for grading's. Really getting into fine tuning, letting it flow and "hardening the body and mind"... as Dory says... just keep swimming....

Double Stick:

Continuing the 5 count Gunting flow (Numerada) - one person feeding.

A1 - open to closed then odd series, A2 closed to open then odd series, A3 Open to closed then odd series, A4 Closed to open then odd series, A5 (stab) Open to closed then odd series.

we did a variety of striking families after the Guntings:

Odd series
Heaven 6
Totsada (stabbing motion)
Ikis (hammering at slight 45 angle)

See notes form previous sessions for  more detail on the actual Guntings

This was very challenging combining movement sticks in correct place, flowing with the strikes and being prepared for any follow up strikes.

We also mixed the feeding up... all right had feeds, then right left right left sab feed (open strikes), then left  right left right stab (all back hands from closed/cob cob)

Important thing was that no matter what hand or what angle you could just use the guntings and they wok vs anything.. you have to drill this SLOWLY.. build your familiarity then flow with it so that your body is responding and your aren't thinking (will take a while!)

Thai Pad rounds - DEATH BY THAI PAD

3 rounds, 3 mins each round, short break between each round. focus on hands up after hitting the pads, tread grapes, breath... keep going!

1) lead round (switch kick) cross hook rear round.
2) lead round cross hook (switch kick) lead round
3) jab cros 2x rear round.

Rounds 2 and three (for Tom and My rounds anyway!) pad holder started to reply with light punches and kicks, keeping you on your toes making sure you are balanced after hitting the pads ready to defend and keeping you moving. I found this very helpful to keep me focused on my stance, guard etc... not saying I was able to defend properly though, and sometimes I was so exhausted I just had to "brace" to take it... but it keeps you more aware.... every one was pushed by this this week and I do think adding an extra hit into the combos (previous weeks were 3 hit combos) forces the cardio even more. Just keep hitting and keep your hands up and try to keep on your toes.. keep moving forward.

Lock flow:

We then moved into different pairs to work lock flows, I saw 8 count flow and disturb and lock flows. Important note on the flows.. it's a drill getting use to the locks and positioning and reference points. Lock work better after a hit or when you find them "by accident". I cannot stress the importance of drills... get them into your body first then they "just happen"... slow and smooth with gradual pressure... not fast and hard and damaging your partner.

Beautiful stuff by all.
